Annie Harlin Rug Auction

Silent Auction of a “Last of its Kind” Hooked Rug by Annie Harlin is the highlight of our 67th Annual Holiday Festival.  Annie is a juried lifetime member of not only Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen, but also of the Pennsylvania State Guild of Craftsmen. Annie is a well-known artist in Pennsylvania and because of her love for this area and her Guild, has created this last hooked rug for us.  The silent auction will be on Saturday, October 29 and will benefit The Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen and their ongoing educational programs of the chapter.

“Taste Treats” is a 30” wide X 38” tall wool hooked rug with a woman tasting a cookie and her cat also tasting a treat.   This will be Annie’s last hooked rug available to the public.

Annie presented her first hooked rugs for sale 20 years ago at the 47th Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen Annual Holiday Festival.   When interviewed by Don Botch from the Reading Eagle 20 years ago about her new craft of hooking rugs, Annie stated “I liked making Teddy Bears, but not nearly as much as this. This is really, really a test of creativity, especially if you’re going to dye your own wool.” Her rugs sold for up to $1400 in 1996. Annie designs her own rugs. She draws her designs on cloth before beginning the labor intensive process of wool strip hooking.
