The first Ivy Fence design was inspired by the old wood fence in her back yard. Later, a client commissioned Louise to create this design to fit her bathroom window. The pattern in the glass was used to simulate the grain of the wood. The leaves needed more definition, so she painted the veins and fired them in her kiln, making the paint permanent.

In 1999, Spectrum Glass Company chose this design to use in their gallery card program. They printed post cards and distributed them to studios and retailers around the world, for use in promoting Spectrum glass and stained glass in general.
