Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen 66th Juried Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Show at Kutztown University’s O’Pake Fieldhouse Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2015

Celebrates 70th anniversary this year

The Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen (www.rbcrafts.org), the largest chapter in the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen with 175 members, holds its 66th consecutive juried Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2015.

Some 100 artisans and student artists will appear at Kutztown University’s O’Pake Fieldhouse (312 Trexler Ave., Kutztown, PA 19530) on October 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on November 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Held in partnership with Pennsylvania German Scholarship Studies, the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center and Kutztown University, the show offers museum quality examples of contemporary and traditional Pennsylvania folk artwork produced by members of the Reading-Berks Guild and other juried craftsmen who are members of the Pennsylvania Guild. Kutztown University and other art students will also display and sell their work.

Show Chairman Terry Boyer said visitors can expect to find many genres of crafts including basketry, clay, fiber, pressed flowers, glass, jewelry, metal, paper, photography and wood. Traditional holiday show favorites are stained glass, hooked rugs, pressed and dried flower art, furniture, woodworking, ceramics, wearables, tole and folk art paintings and holiday collectibles, including Santas.

Several Guild members will demonstrate their craft including Ed Youtz, wood; Linda Beiler, straw weaving; Mary Ellen Brubaker, knitting; Lois A. Jones, painted clothing; Brenda Miller, paper cutting; Marilyn Pounder, polymer clay; Nitays Banyas, air dried clay florals; Joan Dunham, theorem painting; Judy Boyer, floral art; Janet Fasnacht, handspun wool; Debra Hammond, basketry; Brian Mariano, jewelry; Gina Strubel, wire
jewelry; Ginny Good, folk art beeswax; and John Fugelso, treenware.

Butch Imhoff and the Acoustic Road Show will present live music on both days.

A free gift will be given to the first 65 visitors on both days. Boyer said there is ample free parking with handicapped accessible areas and the show is wheelchair accessible. Food is also available. The donation for admission is $6. Children under 12 and students are free.

The Reading-Berks Guild’s 2016 juried spring show will be held in late March or early April at the same location.
